Profile

(This is an old profile page I pulled across from fortunecity. It was written in 2000. Most of it’s still true, but I’m no longer single – for 7 years now – so I don’t use ICQ much anymore, and I’m in a different place with 2 cockatiel birds that keep me company (I’ve moved twice since that profile). Oh, and I got rid of the scooter. I WAS a danger on it.  The other bits that needed changing have been updated already.)

Who am I…

I’ve spent a few years wondering about just that. It’s a lot easier to tell you about what I’m interested in and what I do than to let you know who I am – what does that cover, anyway? Is it decided by the stars at my birth, the influence of my parents, or is it in my power to recreate myself as I want to be?

Personally, I believe the last option is the case, and I’ve been trying to do that since I left home in 1989. I believe I’ve succeeded, to the point where I was so different to who I used to be, I felt my name didn’t fit me anymore, and changed it. That’s quite a few years back, now.

As you probably guessed, I’m a bit of a philosopher. I love to question. The more established the tradition, the more fun I have poking holes in it. Probably one reason why the system usually doesn’t like me much. That, and the fact that I’m always finding ways around the rules and regulations. I have my own ethics, and I was VERY good at debating!

For those of you who believe in the value of education, I have a Uni degree. It’s a B.A. in Psychology followed by Honours in Social & Policy studies in Education. The next question is usually: “What job does that get you?” The answer: None. I believe the wide range of experiences and arenas I’ve successfully adapted to work in are one of my strengths, but many employers prefer specialisation, so for quite a while “none” was the only possible answer :-/

In any case, I finished it, and now I’m in a career position which I love and which allows me to combine what I learnt, with the skills I’ve picked up working my way through, and throw in a bit of the computer stuff I love (been doing that for so many years now, even if I don’t have a piece of paper to say so. Troubleshooting, support and design are my favourite parts…)

Now for the usual statistical stuff. I’ve been around for 39 years, am 5′4″ (163cm) and I’m a Capricorn. That apparently means that I age in reverse. Being Irish as well, you can imagine the confusion. I did decide a number of years ago that it probably wasn’t a good idea to wait around until it was too late to think about ageing, so I chose at that point to declare myself 23 until further notice.  Further notice hasn’t been issued yet.

I was a very mature kid going through school, and now that I’m older (?) and working, with a little money to play with, I’m having enormous fun experiencing what a lot of people would call a delayed youth. Probably explains why I bought myself one of those Razor scooters – they look like FUN! (once I’m not a danger to myself and everyone else on it, of course!) I’m not into the nightclubbing scene much, mainly because I’m a non-smoking vegetarian and like to breathe, but I do enjoy other kinds of fun. I drink (and by that I mean alcohol. If I were referring to water I’d have to say I don’t drink nearly enough!) I enjoy company and I love a walk on a beach or a good movie with a friend. Might have something to do with the fact I haven’t had a TV for about 9 months now… Occasionally I visit a friend or watch something in a waiting room, and remember just why I don’t miss it.

I don’t mind cooking, and am pretty good at it, but can usually not be bothered when it’s just for me, so evenings I usually just come home, do a bit of reading or force myself to do chores, or occasionally indulge in my favourite treat, a scented bath with some nice background music and the lights down low, and then dropping off to sleep. Or try to, lately. I’ve been visiting the chiropractor, and had to get myself a new bedroom suite, since my mattress has given up the ghost to the extent that the dips in it are now deeper than the pillows I’ve taken to stuffing them with while I wait to take delivery of the new one!

I’m single, at the moment, and don’t even have a pet. Used to cause problems with coming home to an empty and silent flat, but the new neighbour has fixed that! Usually to whatever hours… Besides, if I’m ever feeling lonely I can sign on to ICQ as “available to chat” and count how many windows pop up from single guys all over the world ;-)

That’s pretty much me in a nutshell. If you’re interested, follow the links to my astrology chart, or numerology, or whatever else I’ve found to include, and enjoy. Take care, and catch you round!
