Impressive Stuff

(This came across from my 2000 personal site too, although I cleaned up some of it that didn’t apply any more)

This information is not intended to imply that I am in any way, shape or form better than any other person, including you, because I wholeheartedly believe that there is no “better”, there is only “different”. It is chosen purely on the basis that it tends to produce a really cool reaction in the people I tell it to. It also happens to be completely true.

In no particular order…

  • I got accepted into Mensa with an IQ in the top 1%
  • I was intelligent enough to leave it again when it got political!
  • My undergraduate degree was in Psychology at the University of Sydney, followed by Honours in ‘Social & Policy Studies in Education’
  • I used to be a member of the National Speakers’ Association of Australia (NSAA), as well as the Philosophers of Education Society of Australiasia (PESA)
  • I read an average of 5 books a week, and listen to 1-2 tapes (although since I started my own business this has dropped a bit)
  • I have a room in my house full of bookcases as a result, and the removalist has told me that if I ever move again, I am under strict orders NOT to call him! (I don’t know what he’s complaining about – I carried as many boxes up the stairs as he did!)
  • I’ve been publishing my fortnightly ezine, Self-Positivity! since October 1999, with many articles syndicated to other ezines (I lost the original Self-Positivity domain in late 2007, plus the ezine host was hacked and has been publishing spam notices ever since, so this unfortunately had to be retired)
  • I’ve written over 400 poems, and one anthology has been published (The Goddess Within) which sold out!
  • I speak three languages besides English (no, “bad” isn’t one of them!)
  • I’ve been online since ‘89, and sometimes know the net better than my home town (IRC was a cool way to spend lunch at Uni!)
  • I have a life coach who lives in Boston, MA (I live south of Sydney in Australia) – those years on the net have been very useful – we’re set up to talk online for free!
  • I was the first student in my school to be selected for both class and school debating teams, and got both of them to the semi-finals before I came down with Chicken Pox [they lost, but my stand-in got the trophy, so I have no proof]
  • I also got chosen to represent the school in the unfortunately named “Brain Game”. I helped win them a set of encyclopedias, and got all of $50 into the bargain. Sale of the Century – eat your heart out!
  • I’ve been on Wheel of Fortune (yes, how embarrassing, but there was no way I was ever going to afford a car on student allowance, and it was an attempt to come up with a lateral thinking solution!) and despite a continual stream of Lose a Turn and Bankrupt – STILL managed to win the last round. In fact I only missed out on winning the game by $25!

and finally…

  • I hardly ever turn on the TV (I’ve cumulatively spent years without one) and am comfortable enough with myself to enjoy the silence.
